Review on the Picasso PS-908 "Orange"

Introduction
This marks the first sponsored review from Todd & Theresa Nussbaum at www.isellpens.com. They have graciously agreed to send me pens from their stock, which I will write with and then share my findings with the FPN community.

This is a pen from the new Picasso line they are carrying. Todd and I were mulling over what pen I should start this review series with, and he suggested something completely new - and Picasso was the newest thing he had. I looked over the line (or, more specifically, what portion of the line he had at that time) and picked a couple. (You'll have to wait a few days for the other review!)

I liked the look of the 908 series, and I asked him to send me an orange one. (They come in orange, black, and a nice rich red.) Why orange? Well, I thought it would go nicely with my Rhodia pads - and, as you can see, it certainly does!

First Impressions: Design and Appearance
The 908 has a definite "Targa" look to it, with the squared-off top and rectangular profile clip. Of course, there is no mistaking this pen for a Targa!

The cap's top features a black jewel with a tiny gold dome in the middle. The narrow gold cap band mates up with a much wider barrel band, which is inscribed with "Picasso" in blackened script.

The cap and body are made of lacquered brass; the lacquer is very highly polished, and is of a composition that reminds me of porcelain enamel. It's very hard and smooth - flawlessly applied - and initially cold to the touch.

The barrel is slightly tapered, and the jewel at the end is of reversed tone to the clip - a rounded gold piece inset with a step-domed black jewel. At first I found the contrast a bit "off", but when I looked at it as a whole it balances the rest of the design very nicely. A simple repeat of the cap end wouldn't have had the same effect, and it shows that the designer knew what he/she was doing.

The gold clip is embossed with a very nice, long-tailed "Y" down its face, and is fairly strong. A nice construction touch is that the ball end of the clip isn't just folded metal like many other pens - it's actually a ball that's been welded to the underside of the clip, which not only works well but gives a quality appearance when viewed from the side. Nicely done!

The color is almost a dead-ringer for the Rhodia cover, being of the same hue but just ever-so-slightly darker. If you put this pen on a Rhodia cover in an average-lit living room, you might lose the pen! As noted, if you don't like Rhodia orange (who doesn't?), the pen is available in black and red as well.

Features and Construction
The pen is what I consider to be on the small side of "medium." It measures 5-1/2" long capped, 4-3/4" uncapped, and 6-1/4" long when posted. (A Cross Century, by contrast, measures 5-3/8" capped, 5" uncapped, and 5-3/4" posted.)

The Picasso is significantly thicker than the Cross, however. The Picasso has a body diameter of .420", compared to the Cross at .380") The section on the Picasso is a short taper, with a median diameter of .337", where the Cross is very long and .322" in the middle.

The metal construction gives this pen a weight a bit higher than expected - 1.16oz, where the Cross weighs in at .710 oz. Posting the pen gives a slight "back heavy" feel, but it's not as bad as some pens; I generally don't post pens because I don't like that feel, but on this pen I didn't mind posting as much as I normally do.

The cap is of the snap-on type with a nice solid "click" when the pen closes. The effort required to take off the cap is perfect, being neither too tight nor too loose. The pen doesn't rotate in the cap easily, which gives a feeling of solidity to the whole pen. The cap does not leak air when I blow on it, and seals up very nicely.

Rotating the pen inside the cap showed no run-out at either the joint or the end of the barrel, a sign of precise and careful construction.

The section, as noted, has a short straight taper and is made of a nice black resin. Filling is by the common international-size cartridge converter (of course!)

The Nib and Writing Performance
The nib is engraved "Picasso" and "France" and is gold plated. You'll note from the pictures that the plating does not cover the tipping material, which is a nice attention to detail. Gold plating wears quickly from a tip's contact area, which changes the writing characteristics. That shouldn't (and, in my testing, didn't) happen with the Picasso nib, and is a definite advantage in this pen.

The nib is a bit smaller in dimension than I would like to see on a pen of this size; to me, it looks just a tad small for the pen. My wife, though, thought it looked good - but then again, she likes small (preferably hooded) nibs. The line width is between a fine and a medium, being ever so slightly thinner than an Esterbrook 2668 medium.

I inked the pen with Noodler's Walnut, and was greeted with a medium-wet line with just a bit of tooth. Some have described what I felt as being like a nice pencil on paper, and that certainly describes the Picasso. As I've mentioned in other reviews, I don't like the "buttery smooth" feeling that some pens have, as I don't feel in control when using them on a good paper (like Rhodia.) The Picasso was a joy to use on Rhodia, as well as the slightly scratchier Red N' Black paper. (I have some 9000-series Esterbrook nibs that don't feel nearly as nice, and I paid as much for those nibs as this whole pen sells for!)

The pen didn't skip, and was easily able to keep up with the very fast counter-clockwise loop on my initials - many more expensive pens, or those that are a bit drier, cannot. Leaving the pen sit for several days resulted in instant start-up, with no drying or hesitation. (The well-sealed cap is probably accounts for this performance.)

Final Analysis
At the $24.99 that this pen sells for, it's a great deal. Fit and finish is excellent, and it looks, feels and performs better than a lot of pens selling above the $100 mark. Heck, I've seen some $200 pens that just weren't this good!

The Picasso brand, if this example is typical of their production, is worth seeking out. Though it was a test pen and I was expected to write with it, I quickly found myself using it out of preference rather than obligation. It just begged to be written with, and was such a joy to use that I'm sad I have to send it back. I may just have to add one of these to my own collection; that I would be willing to spend my own money tells you how much I liked this pen.

Todd, I received the Hero 100 and Wality pens last week, but I just got around to trying them out on Sunday. Both pens perform flawlessly. I have a stainless H100 I bought about two years ago at more than twice your price. It has been one of my favorites ever since. The black one I bought from you works even better! This is also my second Wality/Airmail pen. My first is a clear bodied eyedropper with a green cap. Both of these pens(Wality) write much better than their low prices would suggest. Thanks again, I'm sure we'll be doing business again soon.

I am soooo pleased with the Hero 100.  The pen writes beautifully.... has a great weight... ! It's now the one I use the most.  I also like the 616--- but I think the Jumbo will be even better for my hands!.  Look forward to the pens!

I wanted to tell you that these Schneider rollerball refills are the best ones I've ever used - very smooth.  I've had so much trouble with others - Hauser & Schmidt - being scratchy and drying out too quickly even with the pens capped.  I am interested to see how long these last, but I know that I very much like the way they write.

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to let you know that the DHL guy got here at almost 6 p.m. yesterday (we've been wasting a lot of paper since then). Jiminy, it was like Christmas! I dearly love my little Torpedo -- am thinking about collecting copper and rose gold colored pens...maybe. If there weren't so many others (sigh).

Sam is so jealous of my Torpedo's box, he can hardly take his eyes off it. He wants to know if we can get boxes like that?

Anyway, playing with all these beauties should keep us from playing in traffic for a while. We got a bottle of Noodlers Eel ink a little while back, and any problem we've had with a pen is usually smoothed right out with Noodlers Eel. Some days, you should see our hands.

   I have just been away for work and returned today to find my Pens and bottle of Noodlers ink waiting for me on the door step.
   The Regal Oxford pen is simply stunning and, once filled with my new Noodlers ink, writes beautifully and so smoothly I am astounded.I must say how pleased I am that I literally stumbled onto your website when I initially bought the Duke 2009, because this also led me to the Noodlers ink. I couldn’t wait to try it and I can’t tell you how pleased I am with it. It far out performs anything I have been able to find here in Australia.
   I must also say that once again I am most pleased and appreciative of the service you offer, prompt, efficient and fast.   On another note, I am not sure if you noticed another order from a Nicki Flockton for a Duke 2009 and a Duke Black carbon Fiber? That was my wife and that order came about because she dropped the Duke pen I got from you only a couple of weeks before. I couldn’t believe it, a brand new pen and she dropped it straight onto the concrete floor of our garage. The force of the blow cracked the inside of the cap causing it not to click on properly. Needles to say that I was a little mad so when I got to work I ordered the Regal Oxford and my ink. Meanwhile, on the other side of town, she was feeling and ordered me a new Duke 2009 and the Carbon Fiber in Black as compensation so I ended up with 3 pens and the ink. I can’t complain about that now can I?
   Anyhow, all 3 pens are excellent and I feel it won’t be long before I am scouring your web pages looking for something else.

Just got the pen. You're right, the box is a little cheesy but then I did not buy a box. The pen on the other hand is quite nice, much nicer than photos can convey. I did expect it to be a little more weighty than it is but it's just right. I filled it with some Prussian Blue and wrote a couple of pages, it's not quite as "fluid" as the Sheaffer (spelled it correctly this time) but I feel more in control of this pen. In short I'm very happy with it. I'm very glad I found your web site because all of our transactions have been stress free and I have saved a little money and that is best. I'm going to let my credit card cool off for a little bit but be assured I will check with you first on the rest of my writing needs and wants. Even though we are thousands of miles apart dealing with you seems like a face to face deal!

Just received my Hero 100 and it writes wonderfully!  I am a family physician and do a lot of writing and I think this will become my new everyday writer.  I have a Pilot Vanishing point and the Hero writes much better.  Just out of curiosity, what pen did you use for the note that was enclosed?  I really like the way it looked.

I just received the Charles Hubert fountain pen I ordered last week from you and was very pleasantly surprised to see such quality for so little money!
I have more expensive pens from Bexley, Conway-Stewart, Parker, Visconti, Aurora and other companies but I paid a lot more for them.
For the meager amount you charged, I really didn't expect this much pen! It writes better then some of the other, more expensive pens I have, and as fine as the rest of them.
I like the fact that the weight of the pen makes it feel like a pen costing $250-$500 and the construction and feel are very solid and of very high quality. This quality is far and away beyond the price I paid you for it.
Lately, I have been getting into French products based on a recent interest in French pop singers, which has lead this interest for me. Congradulations and thank you for picking such fine feeling writing instruments from around the world for us to choose from, and offering them at prices that are ridiculously low compared to anywhere else on the net I have found!

I wanted to drop you a quick email now that I have had a chance to get ink into my recent purchases, the Hero 329 and Fuliwen Acountant #838. I used Aurora black in the Hero, and Noodlers bulletproof black in the Fuliwen. And they write like a dream! "Fine" width nibs. No skipping nor hesitation. They just lay down a beautiful line of ink. I have several pens that will "hesitate" somewhat with the Noodler's. In a medium nib even. But the Fuliwen Accountant #838 handles the Noodler's wonderfully. So, in summary, let me say:
1) I am thrilled with your prompt service.
2) I love my new pens
3) I'm looking forward to being a customer of yours for life
4) You've proven to me that I don't need to spend a bunch of money to get a fountain pen that writes well. Really well.

Just a quick note to tell you how much I like your website. The Hero pens that I have bought from you far exceed my expectations. I have been a die hard collector of brands such as Waterman, Cross, Parker, ect., and have found Hero pens to be right beside them in quality, often exceeding pens which I have paid much more for. The variety is awesome, and you take the time to give a detailed description of the pen. This is important to me, as I only collect metal pens. I look forward to continued business with you. As a note of interest, an investment of several dollars in a bottle of Turtle Wax Express Shine(for automobiles) gives an unbelieveable hard wax shine to all the pens that I have. Spray it on a soft cloth, wipe it on the pen, wipe it off. The finish becomes satin smooth, it repels dust, and fingerprints wipe of the pen with an effortless touch. Plus the laquer finish is protected against the elements. Best investment I have made for my collection. The pens don't just shine, they radiate. It's a secret that I had to share. Keep up the excellent work!

Todd : I received the Haolilai yesterday.  I inked it with Noodler's Sagauro Wine.  Boy a 3 oz bottle really goes a long way.   Here are my impressions :
1.  The color : the combination dark amber/orange finish combined with the gold trim rings and accents conveys a sense of richness to the pen far beyond it's actual cost.
2.  The snap cap is very firm and requires a firm push to snap the cap.  I find this a very good feature as it guarantees no accidental unsnapping.  In this respect it is very similar to the Hero.
3.  The  screw threads on the barrel of the pen and the nib section are metal and thus secure when screwed tightly.   Again this is a feature not expected on a pen at this price point.
4.   The nib lays down a smooth buttery flow not quite a medium as my Dragon and not quite as fine as my Hero but something in between.  It has the flow of the Dragon but with just a bit less spread than the Dragon.   The nib does not need very much pressure to initiate the ink flow so writing with it requires no effort on the wrist.
5.  For me, the section diameter is about the same as the Hero which to me is the minimum circumference I prefer.
6.  Without posting the cap, the pen has a feathery weight.  Posted, the pen feels solid with a little back weight at the end of the barrel.
7.  Conclusion : This is an incredible value.  For $18.99 you find design features that do not exist on far more expensive "name" brand pens.   This one will definitely compete with the Dragon as my daily user.   Thanks again Todd for the quick shipping.

I received the Charles Hubert rose gold fountain pen, Duke mini- converters, and ink last Friday.

The fountain pen is just beautiful. It is also a flawless performer. I am going to enjoy this pen.

The little mini-converter fits perfectly in a small pen I have that supposedly is too small to take a converter. This converter, however, fits it as if it was made for it.

The Noodler's Luxury Blue ink is a beautiful color. You will get repeat business on this one because I know I will be needing to order more sooner than any of the other inks I have.

A bit of trivia: I asked a Chinese student of mine what the little wooden "placard" inside the box was. It's hard to describe it: it's a series of flat sticks ties together to that it will open up into a sort of "mini-screen." Each little stick has Chinese characters on it, and to one side is a carved image of an ancient Chinese fellow. Well, she told me that each stick has a saying from Sun Tzu, the Chinese philosopher who wrote "The Art of War."

So, I ordered one Laban Scepter Pen - Terrazzo Marble FINE nib and Two Jinhao dragon pens.
This Laban Scepter feels comfortable in my hand a bit better than the Mento and I really like Laban's FINE size nib.
The Jinhao dragon pen has nice ink flow, maybe because I prefer wet lines, but it really has nice flow which leads me to get another one for my backup and one for a gift for someone.

Got the pens today. Filled one with Private reserve sage green and one with waterman florida blue the fill system was unfamiliar to me but I quickly figured it out. I like the look and feel. I also like the fine line they produce and was very impressed with the very even, wet flow of each. They seen a little light in weight compared to say, a waterman, but that is not really an issue. In short, I'm very impressed with the overall performance. And of course, you can't beat the price.

The Laban Mento F nib-feed-section unit that I ordered last week to replace the RB piece on my Blue Tornado just got here.  The box got crushed somewhat on one side, and a nice note from the USPS was pasted on the package apologizing and upgrading it to Express Mail!!  The nib-feed-section unit was unharmed, probably thanks to the bubble packing.  First time I ever got anything from the USPS...!! 8-)  I just dipped the nib in my favorite Visconti blue ink, and it writes soooo well, a true Fine with a medium-to-wet flow and a smooooooth trace.  My opinion of Laban has increased ten-fold since getting the Blue Tornado!!  Thanks!

I’ve been a pen lover since college and my first Mont Blanc.  But I have found a love for fountain pens of the past 3 years.  But, when my heart was broken, when my Waterman pen was stolen or misplaced, I started a quest for a replacement.  That is when I found your site.  I wanted to find a pen that was under $100 but still offer quality.  My first order was for a set of Hero pens,  It was a good pen, but still a little cheap for my like.  Anyway, of course they got stolen.  (because I didn’t care for them I didn’t watch out for them like I do with my finer instruments).  Which brings me to my last order, the DUKEs.  I ordered 3 Dukes, Jade Girl, DUKE 209 Calligraphy (for fun) and a Duke 2007 for a back up to the Jade Girl.  Total order was $58, but after opening and test driving the DUKE pens, the order should have been $580.  These are the best pens I have used in a long time and the workmanship on the Jade Girl is amazing.

I just wanted to say thank you for keeping my addiction alive.   I now have two clients that want a Jade Girl, and have no problem getting them one as a present.

I am so glad that you have such a large selection of pens. I have been writing with all of them and i must say that the Picasso round dance of flower is one of the smoothest writing pens but then again all of the Picasso pens write very nice. The Hero pens are very nice as well the 396 Doctor pen is so nice to do fine work on thin sheets of paper. I helped my girlfriend make some valentines over the weekend with the calligraphy pen Hero m 86. One of her friends had a fit over it and i may be getting another one for them to use doing their school work. Hero 329 what can i say i would like to know more about the other pens that are close to it the regular and the jumbo. By jumbo does that mean that they are longer and just a little larger in diameter? The 122 gold pen was a very nice weight great size and my mother loved it i gave it to for a early Valentines gift. I know you get some feedback, thought just for the heck of it I would give you my thoughts so far on the pen and rollerball I just received.

The Kaigelu rollerball (I hardly ever use them) in the gray/amber is a beautiful pen, and one of the smoothest rollers I have ever written with.  Posting doesn't have the "snap" feel of my Waterman, but it is definitely better than my Mont Blanc.  In reality, I'll probably sell those two, I think the Kaigelu is really all I need.  (Although I may have to buy another one, once my wife sees this one.)  I assume you stock the refills; that is, after all, what makes it write so smoothly.

Fountain pen - also very nice, although, with the "M" engraved on the nib, quite a finer line than I expected, even more so than my Inoxcrom (which, by the way, is also marked M.)  It was so pretty, I got in a rush and loaded it right up with the Noodler's Nightshade, instead of flushing out first.  So, of course, my initial efforts were less than exciting - a little scratchy, not a very smooth or wet flow, etc. 

Then I realized it was probably the paper - a sheet of printer/copier all purpose, which is coated, and probably not the best idea for a fp, anyway.  The first check I wrote with it, however, even though that paper is no longer geared toward "old fashioned" pens, was a different story, and was quite a bit better.  I suspect I will get it sorted out along the way.

They truly are beautiful pens.  I always get a little concerned about cracking twist caps, but with the gold-tone trim rings just above the threads for reinforcement, I think they'll be OK.
At any rate, nice pens.  I'm sure I'll be back for more.

Todd, thank you so much for the great service.  The two pens are really beautiful.  the Jinhao really has a smooth nib and puts down a nice line of ink.  The flow is perfect.  The Laban, is a very dry writer and I'm going to have to adjust the nib.  Regardless, it is a great looking pen.  It's amazing what value these pens are.  The last Cross I bought, an Apogee, is a piece of junk and customer service from Cross is terrible. So, getting a bargain like the Jinhao is great as it is replacing the Cross in my rotation.

Reveiw on Kaigelu #316 Pen

I just opened this pen.  It arrived yesterday (ok you are speedy), but I didn't get to my mailbox until this morning.  
You know, this has to be one of the most beautiful pens I've seen in a long time.  It is second only to my Bexley America the Beautiful in mahogany for pure eye candy.  You really did choose a very nice one for me.  Since I got the Lexington Gray to try with the pen, I inked it up right away.  This is impressive.  It's a nice weight pen with good balance and it writes very smoothly.  A true medium nib, for once, and it lays down a nice - but not too heavy - line.  If I can figure out how to take a decent picture of it, I'll review it on FPN one of these days.  This is definitely an alternative to the more expensive pens for someone looking for a nice writing, easy to look at pen.  Do all the Kaigelu pens start out like this, or have you seen any inconsistencies?  Still, I am impressed with this one.  Thank you very much. Just want to let you know that the pens and ink arrived yesterday morning in fine, safe shape.  You packed everything well!  The Libelle's are beautiful.  That Winter Storm is just a stunning pattern.  I'm surprised the brand isn't mentioned more often on FPN.  BTW, the converters do twist out of the Pilot pens and I assume a Pilot cartridge will fit in them. The green is a nice writer, and the black broad is going to a writer friend, along with an Apica notebook. 
The fact that the pens arrived at the same time as a laser disc I've been hunting for a year (National Geographic's Ballad of the Irish Horse) made the mail routine all the more enjoyable yesterday.  And the laser disc has just been reviewed with the Libelle Winter Storm inked with Private Reserve Black Cherry.  It's a treat!

Have to tell you how delighted I am with my new Kaigelu pen. The workmanship of the pen is superb; much better than I expected. The nib is the best out of the box nib I have ever experienced.  I have nibs that have been custom ground/smoothed that aren't as good. I only use Rhodia paper and the Kaigelu nib glides across it like butter in a hot frying pan. It is the best value I have ever received in a fountain pen.

Received my Haolilai #601F and just wanted to drop you a line about the pen. I filled it with PR American Blue and the pen started writing with no problems. Even after putting the pen for several hours, it started writing with no coaxing. The nib is extremely smooth and the pen writes with little effort. It puts down a nice wet line. I used it for an entire weeked and it is definitely becoming my favorite.  Thanks for carrying such a nice pen at a reasonable cost!

Todd, I just received my pens today, and I must tell you that to estimate the KAIGELU value on the White Veined pen was too low. That pen that I received was really quite fantastic from its initial inking.  Not only was my neighbor impressed by it, but it actually surprised me with its quality and beauty. I will keep you informed of its use and evaluation in the near future, but I can't imagine it to be anything less than outstanding. Have not tried myBaoer yet, but will so soon.

Just a quick note to let you know that I received my order via FedEx today. Everything was in perfect condition; what a truly superb packaging job!

I have tried all the inks using the 1.1mm nib on the Hero #5028 Calligraphy Pen. Sheesh...what a phenomenal pen! The nib writes so smoothly it's spooky. I must now engage my rationalizer module to convince myself of all the reasons why I need to buy more Hero #5028 pens. Let's see, different color pens for different color inks...well, I'm sure you're familiar with the process.

The inks are awesome. I was looking for a teal ink, and Private Reserve Blue Suede does the trick. The others have their own virtues, and I look forward to using them all.

I'm a relative newbie to fountain pens, having bought my first pen only a couple of weeks ago—a Waterman Phileas. But already I can see how this can be...well, almost an addiction. I don't have a huge budget, so an item like the Hero #5028 is a welcome find. I am smitten by the look of the variable line width offered by the italic-style nib. The 1.1mm nib on the Hero #5028 is about as wide as I would want to go for most purposes; something smaller and even sharper would be ideal.

By "sharper" I mean a nib configuration wherein the variation between the broad perpendicular line width and the narrow transverse line width is very pronounced. As I understand it, the nibs on the Hero #5028 are considered stub nibs, due to their relatively rounded edges, whereas a true italic nib has much sharper edges. I suspect that I would probably be most happy with a cursive italic nib, assuming I've done my research properly and I'm using the correct terminology. I would welcome any recommendations you can make for a neophyte with a limited budget.

I'm very curious to know what is the vivid blue ink you used to write the note on the packing slip. If it's an ink you have in stock, I'll include it in my next order.

Well, that was fast! I have just received my latest order, and as usual, everything arrived in perfect shape. Both pens and the converter were in perfect shape. The Hero 800 writes as well as my 45 flighter. I think the nib on mine is more along the lines of a fine-medium, and it is very smooth on paper.  ThePilot 78 M nib is just as smooth as the F-nibbed model I bought from you in October. These are really nice pens. And the Pelikan converter does fit my Starwalker (unlike a Waterman converter I had tried earlier). All in all, a totally successful order. I received the package of pens and ink Thursday.  Thank you for the speedy delivery and tracking info.  My children were so excited they opened it before I got home (thankfully my husband stopped them form getting deeper into the box).  They all arrived in great shape.  The ink bottle is pristine without a crack or spilled drop.  I dipped all of the pens and love them all.  However, as you stated on your site, the (gold metallic) Gui Guan #20 nib is extremely smooth dipped and even more impressive filled and only cost $8.  I was so shocked when I reviewed the price on the invoice.  I'll likely be ordering a few more of these for family that are interested in FPs.  I am also very happy eith the Picasso.  Only had time to dip it though.  Thank you again for your amazing service... and handwritten note.

First of all I can only say that if the corporations and the government did business the same way you do, we would not be in the dire straights we currently find ourselves cornered in. Thank you for your outrageously good service.  Wonderful turnover time from order to mailbox.

The pens: I wasn't sure what to expect as I've heard both praise and grousing about the nibs on Chinese pens.  The three I ordered from you write exceedingly well, even though it is hard to believe because of their modest price.

The little Wing Sung 713 is a gem.  It is just, well, large enough to be the perfect small pen.  Very nice fit in my hand, and the line it writes is just slightly narrower than a regular medium.  This is pretty inconsequential, but I really like the tan color as combined with its size it makes it all the more unique.  The Hero 443 is a beautiful pen (dark green). I very much like the weight of it.  The nib writes a very, very fine which is exactly what I was hoping.  I'm using it with some vintage stationery which is much smaller than its modern day counterparts, and with the 443 I can get all  the writing I want on the paper, and with the delicate line it produces it still has the look of 'fountain pen writing.' (I had tried a needle-point roller ball, but all it looked like was writing done by a roller ball on old stationery. The 443 put a line down with just enough shading to match the paper perfectly...) 

In your blurb under the picture of the Gui Guan 10 you sang its praises as a very good writer with a generous line.  You were not exaggerating, Todd. This pen is amazing.  Again, the look of it is very unusual.  It is the matte blue-green and is very elegant looking. The weight of it is so nicely balanced and with the cap posted it is extremely long in your hand. The line it puts on paper is beautiful and very consistent.  Someone gave me a box of "old, nobody will ever use it" 25% Crane writing paper (sometimes the gods sing for you) and you should see the line this pen makes -- ha! I'm preaching to the choir here -- but it produces a gorgeous looking line. Very rich looking line. You simply could not ask for more. I used Noodler's Purple Martin in all three pens.

It's a funny thing, Todd.  I ordered these pens because I had a close call with one of my treasured vintage pens (a Mabie Todd Swan) when my purse was snatched.  The police were on it right away (I live in a relatively small town), and recovered the purse -- they found it on the street where the thief had thrown it down. Without going into all the details, the Swan was also recovered, but it was a huge wake-up call.  I ordered these "cheap" Chinese pens so I wouldn't care if they were stolen, but now that I've gotten acquainted with them, and they've been so charming, I would very much miss them if they were to be taken away.  So I sure didn't gain much ground where that is concerned, did I?  Thank You, Todd, for this great introduction to the inscrutable universe of the Chinese pen.

from FPN:   I do not live near a pen shop, so except when I'm traveling, I rely on internet merchants. So far, I've had only great experiences with those  merchants. But when I placed my first order with isellpens on Sunday, July 5 (how many B & M stores were open then?), I got a new level of service--a FedEx tracking number for the order in under an hour. This turnaround is all the more impressive given that I was not ordering just one common item; instead, I ordered a bunch of trinkets--PR cartridges of several colors, a Bexley nib unit, and so on, probably a real pain to assemble. Yet here's all of my stuff, all the way across the country in under a week. Review on Jinhao Dragon Pen 14K
I received this pen a couple of days ago, and it is very nice. The presentation box with the bamboo scroll is also a nice touch. The pen writes very well, and is much more comfortable to hold than I would have expected. I would have expected to pay much more for this pen, especially with the gold nib, and look forward to more JinHao pens.

Thank you so much for upgrading my Pelikan ink to a larger bottle, and for the free bottle of green Pelikan ink (as indicated by your note on the packing slip)!  They're all much appreciated.  I suspect the green ink will go to the Pelikan M200 italic that I obtained from you previously (a delight to use, currently filled with Sheaffer's King's Gold ink).

I'll be using these inks on my old Osmiroid and Sheaffer calligraphy pens (for greeting cards and letters).  By the way, the Bexley Simplicity II has a wonderfully smooth nib, even if it's not so flexible.  But I wasn't expecting nor do I want flex in this nib, so it's a delightful instrument--the pen color is rich and brilliant without being showy (I love the pen's classic '20s flat-top design); while the nib is quite elaborate for a steel one .  It doesn't skip, lays down a moderately wet line (with the Pelikan Royal Blue that I just received from you) and doesn't dry out even when left uncapped for ten minutes or so.  
Once again, my purchases from you have been an absolute delight.  I shall recommend your business to my fellow collectors of course, if any still hasn't heard of ISellPens.com!

Review on Shaeffer Asia Fountain Pen
Todd--the pen is even more beautiful than pictured!  AND I discovered that the broad nib--which may be a deterrent to some buyers--can be replaced by the nibs from less expensive Shaeffers I bought years ago and which are still available here and there.  So now I have B, M, F nibs as well as calligraphy nibs to use with the Royal Selangor, making it one of the most versatile pens I have. [I was interested to find the same pen on e-bay currently bid at almost $400.  Astounding!] Alex. H

Hi Todd,  feel free to post this on your web site, in fact I hope you do, because everyone should know how fabulous the Jinhao fountain pen is!
First of all, you answered all my questions in advance and confirmed the $45 version of "Dragon Protects Precious Stone" has the 14K gold nib  rather than gold plated (GP), a nicer ink converter,  the cap with clip and more gold trim.  I read a review of the less expensive model and even that one got rave reviews on Fountain Pen Network. 

My order was here in three days!  (I ordered several things, after speaking with you -- gifts and the Limited Edition Hero Century.)   I love the Jinhao more than the LE Hero!!  The beautiful box and presentation of the Jinhao is astounding.  It writes like a dream and looks even better.  I like the "hefty" feel of it.  It's gorgeous!   I told my friend no one can pry it out of my fingers!   The Hero is a mind-boggling value for a Limited Edition pen, especially given current gold prices!  It's beautiful to look at, just a bit light for my taste. 

No one can believe the prices on any of these -- the Haolilai #601F is beautiful and under $20!!  the Kaigelu #316 White Veined RB (gift) is stunning!   I will remain a loyal customer for as long as you provide such wonderful pens for us.   Everyone should have total confidence buying from you.  Your Customer Service is outstanding. I “found” you about a week ago.  I ordered two pens from you, and have just really begun my fountain pen experience.  I had some older pens that were gifts.  What I got from you: 1 – Haolilai #801F & Guiguan #20

Both pens are wonderful.  I “flossed” them to get more ink flow and they glide over my 20 wt. typewriter paper like silk.  I have other pens that do not.

I absolutely love the Noodler’s ink SaguaroWine color.

Your pens arrived within two days after placing my order, which means that you packed and shipped them just about a minute after I ordered them.  So thank you.

The second pen, the Guigan #20 with broad nib is a “gift” for $15 bucks plus shipping.  It might become my favorite.

Review on Picasso #PS-81
This is my first Chinese FP and to be honest I was not expecting anything gout of it except as a conversation piece for their vibrant coloring.  I've just inked the pen using Waterman ink cartridge and they lay a nice medium wet line.  The nib is smooth. This FP can take on any FP in the class and higher.







I've been buying a lot of fountain pens lately, from $6 to $150--I don't really know why, but that's neither here nor there. The $8 Gui Guan #10 pen I bought from you a week or so ago, however, seems to be the best of the lot. It's got a nice, smooth, medium line and doesn't seem to dry out.  Its on the way to becoming my favorite writing pen.  It writes as well as my old Mont Blanc, but hasn't got my fingers inky yet, as that pen tended to do.  Chris
